The Little Otter Water Easel paints with plain water. Each stroke comes up dark on the board, then fades as it dries, ready to go again in minutes. No paint, no ink, and nothing to scrub out of little sleeves.

Two ways to paint. Stand the board upright in its stand on the kitchen table or the back step, or lay it flat on the table so they can lean right in. The water sits in a well built into the stand, right beside the brush.

Why parents like it

  • Zero mess, zero stains. It paints with water only
  • Nothing to clean up afterwards, so they can paint while you get dinner on
  • Bamboo brush that's easy for small hands to hold
  • Paint upright or flat
  • Fades and resets in minutes, so it never runs out
  • Quiet focus for ages 3 and up
  • Builds fine motor skills and creative confidence

What's in the box

  • Water drawing board, Large (about 30 × 24 cm)
  • Stand with a built-in water well and brush rest
  • Bamboo water brush

Setting up

The stand balances one way round. If the board leans forward, turn it to face the other way. Fill the well before they start, so the water is ready when they reach for the brush.

One for home, one for Nan's. Grandparents often keep a second easel at their place, so there's always something quiet to do on a visit, and no paint on the good carpet.

Ages 3+. Not suitable for children under 3 years. Adult supervision recommended.

No mess

Plain water and nothing else. No ink, no paint, no pens that dry out. Nothing to wash out of clothes or scrub off the table.

No clutter

It stands on the table and packs away flat in seconds. When the painting stops, the room goes back to being a room.

Nothing runs out

Water is the only thing it uses. No pens, pads or paint to buy again, and it resets for another go in minutes.

A hand paints a wavy line onto the board with the bamboo brush, using only water

Water in, art out

Dip the brush in plain water and paint straight onto the board. Strokes darken as it wets, hold while they work, then fade back to blank as it dries. It's ready to start over in a few minutes, as many times as they like.

Quiet, without a screen

Somewhere between drawing and calligraphy practice. It holds attention the way a book does rather than the way a screen does, and it's absorbing enough that brothers and sisters will want a turn.

Seen from above, a child sits beside the board laid flat on a wooden floor, with the stand and brush next to it

When they're done, it packs away and the room looks just the way it did before.
